by Jerry

Nintendo announced on Thursday, April 27, 2017, that it had sold 2.74 million Switch consoles in one month. Sales down, but better than expected. As a result, for the 2017-18 fiscal year, the Japanese firm has decided to revise its outlook to expect an additional 10 million Switch consoles. The sale of games has also been a hit.

Clearly, Nintendo has a paid strategy to win back the video game market. On Thursday, April 27, 2017, the Japanese giant announced that it had sold 2.74 million Switch units between March 3, 2017, the date of the new console's global launch, and March 31, 2017, the closing date of the fiscal year.

On the other hand, the company's turnover is down 3%, but it is higher than expected. Nintendo expected to reach 470 million yen, the total amount amounted to 489.1 million yen. Profits were also down 10.7% but higher than expected. They amounted to 29.4 million yen for 20 million expected. On the other hand, advertising spending was lower than budgeted.

Game sales soar

On the gaming side, sales soared. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, a launch priority game, sold 2.76 million units; which represents 100.7% of the consoles available on the market. This is due to purchases of duplicate versions and collector's editions.

Friday, April 28, 2017, is the release of the reissued version of the game Wii U Mario Kart 8 Deluxe that is also likely to cause a sensation, with the improvements made to the game. The catalogue of available games will consolidate until the end of 2017 and 2018 with the highly anticipated releases of Super Mario Odyssey, Sonic, Skyrim, Minecraft, FIFA, etc. Enough to give Nintendo grain to grind, despite the defects of the Switch console and waiting for the release of the Switch Mini. Nintendo expects an additional 10 million consoles to be released next year.
