The PS5 is already available for purchase on eBay, the online auction site. Determined to take advantage of stock outages, a surfer has indeed decided to sell the next gen console that he has just pre-ordered. The auction quickly reached $25,000!

On September 17, Sony finally opened the PS5 pre-orders. Unsurprisingly, both consoles quickly ran out of stock. On Amazon, it only took a few minutes for both variants to be unavailable. In France, PlayStation 5s are also out of stock on Auchan, Boulanger, Cdiscount and Fnac.

Of course, Internet users rushed to make some money. On eBay, dozens of ads for PS5 quickly appeared. More often than not, consoles are sold at their initial price, which is 399 euros or 499 euros. In some cases, prices rise to more than 1000 euros. On some ads, the auctions go wild. Currently, there is a PS5 with a disc player of more than 5000 euros from Germany. The situation is similar for Nvidia's GeForce RTX 3080. Out of stock, graphics cards ended up for sale on eBay for more than $1,200.
As our colleagues at Cnet report, an ad even reached $25,000 on eBay! Initially, the seller had offered the console at $800, which is already $300 above the recommended selling price. In the ad, the user explains that he pre-ordered the PS5 when opening. Upon receipt, he promises to ship the machine to the highest bidder.
Obviously, this type of ads is in violation of the regulations imposed by eBay. If the site allows sellers to offer an item they do not yet own, eBay requires that the item be delivered within 30 days of purchase. It is impossible for resellers to deliver the item on time: Sony will not ship the first units until November 19, 2020.
Contacted by Cnet, an eBay spokesperson assures that "our teams are aware of the problem and will take appropriate action." In fact, many ads are gradually being deleted from the platform. If you haven't been able to pre-order your console, you're wisely advised to wait for PlayStation 5 to be released in stores.
