Samsung has just unveiled the new Galaxy S20 Fan Edition (or FE for intimates). The smartphone available in 4G and 5G versions finally allows you to have a Snapdragon 865 in place of the Exynos 990 reputedly less efficient.

Samsung has been offering "Fan Edition" versions of its flagships for a long time. It is usually a question of proposing the same general formula as the current model, while making some compromises to result in slightly softer rates. The Galaxy S20 FE is no exception. Their technical record looks like an S20 Lite. With two main variants.

Galaxy S20 FE: The choice between Exynos 990 and Snapdragon 865 is a great surprise!
There is indeed a Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 4G and also a 5G model. Both smartphones offer a 6.5" Super AMOLED flat display, unlike other models in the range that all have curved screens. This full HD- and 20:9 definition screen offers a 120 Hz refresh rate like the most expensive models. It incorporates an ultrasonic fingerprint reader "for quick and secure unlocking, even with wet fingers, for example."
Note, however, that this feature is not adaptive on these products and therefore the refresh rate should be manually changed depending on the case. It features a triple rear-facing photo sensor (12-8-12 MP) capable of capturing 4K videos and a 32Mp selfie sensor. Samsung explains: "The Galaxy S20 FE will delight photo and video enthusiasts with performance inherited from those of the Galaxy S20. It features a 12MP main sensor, a 12MP ultra wide-angle module, as well as an 8MP sensor with a telephoto lens with optical zoom up to x3 without loss of sharpness, and up to x30 thanks to Space Zoom technology. Fans of social networks and selfies are not left out, since the front module and its 32MP sensor allow to make detailed portraits sublimated by the addition of a background blur."
But there is also a real nice surprise, especially if you opt for the 5G model. The cheapest 4G model runs on an Exynos 990 – the same chip as the other S20 available in Europe and the Note 20. Samsung usually still sells its flagships in Europe under Exynos, the firm's SoC. The models available in the United States and in some markets are all built around the newest Snapdragon chip. Once is not custom, all S20 FE 5G are sold with a Snapdragon 865 chip.
For many years, users have been denouncing significant performance discrepancies between the American variants under Snapdragon and European variants under Exynos. Now you have a choice. You'd even want to say 'Finally' – hoping that the Snapdragon option will end up on future models. Samsung also admits to having chosen the Snapdragon 865 on the S20 FE 5G "to run the programs and applications and ensure a perfectly smooth operation of the smartphone".
In addition, both versions feature a 4500 mAh battery, 25W ultra-fast charging, 15W wireless charging and power sharing for Galaxy Buds or Watch 3. Smartphones are available in 128GB and 256GB and carry 6 or 8GB of RAM. The Galaxy S20 FE comes in six colours: Cloud Navy, Cloud Mint, Cloud Orange, Cloud Red, Cloud Lavender and Cloud White. The price of the different variants is as follows:
- 4G (Exynos 990) / 6 – 128GB: 659 euros
- 4G (Exynos 990) / 8 – 256GB: 729 euros
- 5G (Snapdragon 865) / 6 – 128GB: 759 euros
- 5G (Snapdragon 865) / 8 – 256GB: 829 euros
The Galaxy S20 FE is available for pre-order untilOctober 1 (11:59 p.m.). Samsung says that for all pre-orders, a New Connected Bracelet-2 Galaxy Fit is available. The S20 FE will be available in stores from October 2. Samsung recalls launching a parallel recovery program "open to all smartphones". And to give an example: "the Galaxy S20 FE 5G will be offered from 549 for the recovery of a Galaxy S9 in good condition (grade A)". What do you think of the Galaxy S20 FE?
