Clues have still emerged of the existence of the Pixel Watch, or at least it will be called the first Google smartwatch: this time it is the stainless Evan Blass, also called Evleaks, to return to the issue. Very few details: just a screenshot, of unclear origin, but with the indication of a code name, Rohan, already associated in the past several times with the device, and a software version currently unpublished, the 3.1. The source – which, it is worth remembering, is one of the most reliable and longest career in the entire tech leak scene – simply adds that it is no longer long over.
How much, exactly, however, is more difficult to establish. There are three particularly likely dates: May 11 or 12, coinciding with the annual I/O 2022 conference, the presentation could take place, while in July there would be the actual availability for purchase. Or it could slip everything to October, along with the top-of-the-range next-generation Pixels. Blass’ words, and the fact that we are already talking about interactive demos, leave us thinking that actually next month we will have some updates, but who knows.
Google is one of the main protagonists of the smartwatch industry, with its Wear OS platform (formerly known as Android Wear), and is also the owner of Fitbit and yet so far it has never presented itself with its own “hero product” in the category. The rumors about it when instead of Pixel we talked about Nexus, but apparently some lost bets in the field of hardware innovation (in particular the control with gesture via radar of Project Soli) have prevented the event.
At present, concrete information about the Pixel Watch is extremely scarce. Renders released earlier, but now some time ago, indicated a round dial and a very discreet and minimalist look. It’s easy to assume advanced heart rate tracking and other features thanks to Fitbit’s know-how. There is also talk of a very generous storage memory, equal to 32 GB, but all the further we do not go.
