The decency and magnanimity of Google are now expanding Google Translate to 110 new languages. Almost unknown languages or, at best, languages nearly extinct, yet a crucial attempt at documentation.
Google Translate is one of the most useful applications when you are traveling or have to talk to someone in another language; and thanks to a new version it is possible to communicate with approximately 614 million more people. Google has introduced 110 new languages to Google Translate with its PaLM 2 AI Large language Model LLM making the total languages count to nearly 250. This continuation is after the 24 unveiled in 2022; indigenous languages of the Americans, Africa, and the Middle Asia region.
Google translate acquires an additional one hundred and ten languages
The major part of the newly included languages, you probably have never heard of, and for good reason: some of these languages are used by a few people at most, or are even non-numerary.
Most of the readers are possibly familiar with Cantonese language; this Bantu language is used in southeastern China by individuals in Hong Kong, Macau and other parts of the world. Google also noted that since most of the languages in the LLMs overlap with Cantonese and Mandarin, which are already available, it hard to properly train the same. The most spoken language in Pakistan Punjabi (Shahmukhi) is also constituted in this category.
These new languages are reported to be created in large numbers every year and a quarter of these are from Africa. These are Afar that is used in Djibouti, Eritrea and Ethiopia and Tamazight (Amazigh) spoken in North African plus Nko, Fon, Kikongo, Luo, Ga, Swati, Venda and Wolof.
Languages spoken are considered to be minor or completely unused, but the effort for their survival is highly essential.
It is also possible to conduct a simple conversation in Manx, Celtic which is used in the Isle of Man in the Ireland Sea. Thus, due to recent efforts, today there are no more than several dozen people who speak it as the primary language and no more than several thousand as the second language.
This update also introduces Portuguese (Portugal), Tongan, Tibetan, Tahitian, Venetian, Sicilian, Fijian, and Jamaican Creole.
The Google Translate app is available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. It can translate the text you copy and paste for it, but also the text that appears in a photo. She can also translate directly or via handwriting.
