There are some key enhancements made to Android 16.
People using Android operating system may soon have a new face of their environment. Based on beta findings made by Mishaal Rahman and Android Authority, Android 16, which comes with quick notifications and settings notifications Quick settings tiles could be overhauled.
More intuitive navigation
Before that, to open the Quick Settings, people needed to swipe through with two fingers only with the one finger. This single shift in navigation may make this new interface relatively much more clumsy. However, in the latest version tested, “Android 15 QPR 1 Beta 3”, Rahman found that quick settings panel are not needed two-finger swipe to the right of the screen and it is simple one-finger swipe.
Adjustments still needed
However, a major limitation remains present with this new configuration: the absence of a phenomenon of swiping sideways from one screen to the other. Something that vendors like OnePlus with its OxygenOS and Xiaomi with HyperOS can do, and would make sense for Google to introduce as a new version of this feature in Android. Still, this setup is identical to iOS’ Control Center and lock screen since the release of the iPhone X, perhaps Google is emulating Apple and not its smartphone partners.Besides all of the aforementioned alterations, there could be additional iPhone-like modifications that extends for Android 16 such as the simple switch for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth tiles; the latter to retain normal applications similar to chattering bubbles; as well as the constant rich notifications on the screen to update one on progressing tasks such as waiting for a cab or navigating via Google Maps. make this new interface much more clunky. However, in the latest version tested, “Android 15 QPR 1 Beta 3”, Rahman discovered that the quick settings panel no longer requires a two-finger swipe on the right side of the screen to activate, but a more familiar one-finger swipe.
Adjustments still needed
However, a major limitation remains present with this new configuration: the impossibility of switching between the two screens by swiping sideways. It’s a feature that Android skins like OnePlus’ OxygenOS and Xiaomi’s HyperOS can do, and would be a sensible addition to the base Android version of this feature. That said, this setup is similar to that of iOS’s Control Center and lock screen since the arrival of the iPhone X, perhaps Google is following Apple’s lead rather than that of its own smartphone partners.
iPhone-inspired changes
In addition to the mentioned changes, Android 16 could see other iPhone-inspired changes, such as the return of the simple toggle for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth quick settings, a new option to keep regular apps in bubbles like chat windows, and another iPhone-inspired change with the introduction of ongoing rich notifications to keep you up to date on long-running tasks, like waiting for a taxi or using Google Maps to navigate.
It seems that Android 16 is an update designed to thwart trends. Its release date is slated for the middle of next year, rather than the end of the year as we’ve seen with Android 15 this year. So expect to see it on the best Android phones much sooner than usual.
