Microsoft is about to release an Xbox One with no drive. In order to occupy the field while waiting for the arrival of Xbox Scarlett, the American firm has indeed decided to market a cheaper console in april 2019.
According to our Windows Central colleagues, Microsoft has developed a cheaper Xbox One S, which is distinguished by the absence of the drive. It would be titled "Xbox One S All-Digital Edition" and would be available for pre-order sometime next month. We can expect an official announcement as early as the beginning of April, for a release on the market in May 2019 all over the world.
Microsoft is preparing a cheap Xbox One 100% dematerialized while waiting for Xbox Scarlett
To accompany this special version, Microsoft could implement the "disc-to-digital" program, which simply converts the disc of a game into a digital version, Windows Central points out. We do not know more about the program at this time. Unsurprisingly, Redmond's firm wants to push players to subscribe to the Xbox Game Pass,a monthly subscription that offers unlimited access to more than 100 games.
This is not the first time that a cheaper and 100% dematerialized Xbox One has been mentioned in the press. In November 2018, the Thurrot website claimed that this Xbox would be offered around 200 dollars for a technical sheet close to or similar to that of the current Xbox One S.
For now, it is unclear whether Microsoft plans to go even further and offer an Xbox Scarlett with no drive. At the latest news, the next generation of Xbox will be available in two variants: an Xbox Lockhart and an Xbox Anaconda. The two Xboxes are scheduled to be released at E3 2019, with a release announced at the end of 2020. What do you think of this console without a Blu-Ray player? Could you do without games on physical media to go digital?
