It is almost four months after its release that the photo sensor of the LG G4 finally enters the ranking of DxOMark, reference site that tests, classifies and notes all the photo sensors on the market. The Korean flagship scored an overall score of 83 points with 86 points for the photo part and 79 points for the video part, placing in second place behind the Galaxy S6 Edge, which remains, for now, in first place.

With a score of 83 points, the LG G4 we tested at its release is tied with the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the Moto X Style, passing the Sony Xperia Z3 and the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. On the photo side, DxOMArk emphasizes the precision of the autofocus and the preservation of details that remain excellent, regardless of the brightness conditions, and the reduction of noise in low light. On the other hand, outdoors, the photos seem to lack finesse, the blue of the sky tends to saturate and the white balance is sometimes distorted.

On the video side,DxOMark emphasizes the quality of exposure and color rendering as well as the level of detail and noise reduction in full light. However, it can also be noted that stabilization is not optimal and the colored shadows sometimes visible in low light. In case of strong light, the level of detail is sometimes erased and if it is artificial light, the white balance then tends to turn pink.
Despite its weaknesses, the LG G4's 16-megapixel photo sensor remains one of the best on the market. Its opening of f/1.8 allows it to offer excellent performance in low light and overall, the quality offered remains very good.
