Huawei P40 Pro: Patent Reveals It Could Own 8 Photo Sensors

by Jerry

A patent filed by Huawei suggests that the manufacturer is working on the integration of 6 sensors in the back of a smartphone. Will the P40 Pro be equipped with it or will have to wait until the mate 40 Pro is released to enjoy it? And most importantly, what good are all these sensors?

On February 21, 2020, Huawei filed a patent with the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), which immediately approved the Chinese manufacturer's application. On the renderings of the device, we can observe a double sensor in front, which in itself, is not surprising. For quite some time now, we know that Huawei intends to use such a device on its P40 Pro in particular, device that is already found on the Honor View 30 and Nova 6. On the other hand, there is more surprising: on the smartphone device, we see the presence of 6 sensors! No more, no less.

A smartphone with 6 sensors in the back, what's the point?

The shape of the rear photo module of this new smartphone is reminiscent of that of the Mate 20 Pro. Rectangular, and therefore totally different from the circular mate 30 Pro, this device can accommodate 6 photo sensors. What good is the two additional sensors? For now, it's a big mystery. In addition, Huawei has filed two patents: on the first, the module is located in the center of the device, while on the second, it is housed on the left. But in both cases, the number of sensors remains the same. If this information is proven, the P40 Pro could be the beast of war of the year. Earlier in the day it was reported that the P40 could benefit from an even faster connection mode than Wi-Fi 6.

If the device looks in some respects like a P30 Pro, some doubts remain as to the fact that it could well be its successor. It has rounded edges at the back, but the front ones look much less curved than on a P30 Pro or a Mate 30 Pro. On the right side, we observe the presence of a volume controller and a power button that also acts as a fingerprint sensor, a sensor that does not exist on the P30 Pro either. Finally, we note the presence of what might look like a jack (although a little small), an element that, again, is totally absent from the P30 Pro. Unless it is a different type of port, but in any case, Huawei would have made several major design changes between the P30 Pro and the P40 Pro.

In any case, to find out more, we will have to wait until the end of March, during which time the P40 Pro will be formalized. Huawei plans to hold a global presentation in France. What do you think? Is it the P40 Pro or a completely different model? We'll let you discuss it in the comment section of this article.
