PS5: Here's the list of retrocompatible PS4 games that will see their graphics improved

by Jerry

Like Microsoft, Sony will allow PS5 customers who own certain PS4 games to benefit from the PS5 version for free. A system reminiscent of the Xbox Series X Smart Delivery. We take stock of the list of games involved at this stage.

Since the first mentions of the PS5 the question of retrocompatibility and improvement of the graphics of the games that would be is without a doubt the one that comes back the most. Initially, a cluster of clues even pointed to a vast retrocompatibility up to ps1. It's a bit like Sony wanting to make the PS5 the model that unites all generations.

PS5: Here is the list of PS4 games that will benefit from a free update for the new console

Yet, over the months, the tone has changed markedly. And the promise of vast retrocompatibility has been reduced like a skin of sorrow. To date, we now expect a more tenuous retrocompatibility mainly on PS4 games. There will also be games in the coming months that will be released on PS4 and PS5, and will therefore benefit from two versions with improved graphics on PS5. However, players who own these games will benefit free of charge from the PS5 version.

A way for Sony to respond to Microsoft's Smart Delivery system, which again allows for free updated versions of Xbox One games on Xbox Series X. Unlike this system, however, Sony distinguishes the disk and dematerialized versions. Understand that if you have a box game, you'll need the PS5 with disk drive to get the update.

Here is the list of eligible games:

  • Assassin's Creed Valhalla
  • Control Ultimate Edition
  • Cyberpunk 2077
  • Destiny 2
  • DiRT 5
  • Doom Eternal
  • Far Cry 6
  • FIFA 21
  • Madden NFL 21
  • Marvel's Avengers
  • The Elder Scrolls Online
  • Watch Dogs Legion
  • WRC 9
  • Yakuza: Like a Dragon

Of course, we will update this list as soon as a studio makes a new announcement. It is pointed out that this list is separate from the PS4 games that will potentially be simply retrocompatible – Sony has promised a total of a hundred of the most popular games before reaching up to 4000 titles.
