Galaxy S20: Samsung rolls out One UI 2.5 update, how to install it

by Jerry

Samsung has just launched the rollout of the One UI 2.5 update on the Galaxy S20, S20 and S20 Ultra, just as the Galaxy Note 20 is making its debut around the world. The update is a small evolution of One UI 2.1 and introduces in particular the compatibility of the gesture navigation of Android 10 with alternative launchers.

It's August 21, 2020, and today the Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra are available internationally after their presentation on August 5th. Both smartphones were supposed to be the first to benefit from the new OneUI 2.5 overlay. To our surprise, Samsung has decided to launch the rollout of the update now across the entire S20 range.

As our colleagues at Sammobile point out, the firmwares G981BXXU4BTH5, G986BXXXU4BTH5 and G988BXXXU4BTH5, respectively, corresponding to the Galaxy 20, S20 and S20 Ultra, are now deployed in Europe, starting with Germany, Italy, Portugal and the Netherlands. This should also be the case for France in the coming hours.

One UI 2.5: What's new?

This new version comes only a few months after One UI 2.1 which was introduced with the Galaxy S20. If the overlay does not change the interface of One UI 2.0, several new features have been introduced on the functional plane. New Quick Share and Music Share sharing options included new sharing options, as well as numerous improvements to the Samsung Camera app.

Unsurprisingly, One UI 2.5 doesn't bring much new, other than the compatibility of Android 10's gesture navigation with alternative launchers. If you're one of those who prefer a third-party launcher over the Samsung overlay, it was so far impossible to take advantage of new gesture navigation options.

If you have a Galaxy S20, S20 or S20 Ultra, the OTA notification of an update should arrive in the next few hours if not already. Don't hesitate to check its availability regularly by visiting Settings > Software Update > Download and Install. As a reminder, in announcing the transition of its support to three generations of Android a few days ago, Samsung also specified that the Galaxy S20 will be the first to receive OneUI 3.0 (Android 11) in stable version in the coming weeks.
