The Jaguar Land Rover Group has a specific project linked to the electrification of the range of cars of its brands. As we know, for example, Jaguar will become an all-electric brand from 2025. To support this plan, an adequate supply of batteries is also needed. Precisely for this reason, the British Group would be in dialogue with Envision AESC for the supply of cells to be used for its future electric cars.
This is not the first time that there has been talk of a possible agreement between these two realities. Now, however, the Financial Times adds some interesting details. The negotiations would be going on and, apparently, the possible agreement would not only concern the simple supply of cells.
According to reports, the agreement that is being discussed would be so broad that it could even lead to the construction of a new factory for the production of cells. Plant that could be built in the United Kingdom, a location preferred by Jaguar Land Rover but sites in Spain and Hungary would also be examined. The news is very interesting and that the agreement can also lead to the birth of a factory is not very surprising.
Most automakers are making important agreements for the supply of accumulators. In several cases, these agreements also include the construction of a new factory. Recall that the Jaguar Land Rover Group intends to launch six new electric models on the market by 2025. In 2024, for example, the electric Range Rover will debut. And as mentioned at the beginning, from 2025 Jaguar will become an electric-only brand.
For the moment, the British Group did not want to comment on this news, limiting itself to stating that it is considering different options and that no decision has been made. Envision AESC, on the other hand, has only made it known that it is in regular contact with a number of car manufacturers.
It is worth noting that Envision AESC will already build a battery factory with Nissan in the UK. In addition, the company has also signed an agreement with Groupe Renault. Together with the French, he will build a battery plant in Douai, France.
