HTC launches an enticing smartphone

by Jerry

HTC is a household name for those who have been following the world of smartphones since its beginnings. Before the birth of Samsung’s Galaxy or Sony’s Xperia, HTC made its mark by marketing the first Android smartphone. The G1 – or HTC Dream in France – marks the beginning of the rise of the Google-backed operating system. The Taiwanese brand will also play an important role and will even be at the origin of Google’s Nexus One and the first Pixels. Unable to keep up with the pace driven by Samsung, Apple and the arrival of Chinese brands, HTC will withdraw from the smartphone market to move to other segments. However, the company hasn’t given up entirely and regularly reminds us of our fond memories by launching new smartphones.

The former giant of the Android universe has just unveiled the HTC U24 Pro, an interesting smartphone from many points of view and which logically succeeds the U23 Pro. HTC’s new device offers an interesting spec sheet, starting with a 6.8-inch OLED screen in Full HD+ definition (1,080 x 2,436 pixels). The panel has a 120Hz refresh rate and is equipped with Corning Gorilla Glass. Inside, HTC offers a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 paired with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. You can also add a microSD card to expand the storage portion of your device.

A high-end and affordable smartphone
In 2024 we are mainly interested in the photographic component and the HTC U24 Pro does not disappoint. It comes with a trio of sensors, including a 50-megapixel main sensor (f/1.88, wide-angle, OIS) that can record video at up to 4K at 30fps. HTC adds a 50-megapixel telephoto lens (f/2.2) with 2x optical zoom and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide angle (f/2.2). The latter also doubles as a depth module while a 50MP camera is located on the front.

HTC mentions the presence of an AI-enhanced photo application, in order to improve image rendering and user experience.

The manufacturer adds a battery with a capacity of 4,600 mAh, which is compatible with 60 W fast charging and 15 W wireless charging. The rest of the setup includes an IP67 certification, an under-display fingerprint sensor, as well as Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and 5G. There’s also a 3.5mm jack for connecting wired headphones or earphones. The whole thing runs on Android 14 and the smartphone has dimensions of 167.1 x 74.9 x 9 mm and a weight of 199 grams.
