Barely announced, already out of console. The PS5, whose prices and availability date have just been unveiled, is no longer available for pre-order. And those who were able to order from Amazon were surprised to see a delivery date that does not match at all that announced by Sony.
It's done: the wait will have been long, but we finally know the price and availability date of the Sony PS5. The console is sold for €399.99 for the Digital Edition version,and €499.99 for the standard version. As for its availability date, it is set for November 19, 2020 in France (and one week rather in the United States). As soon as Sony's announcement was made, most e-retailers launched pre-orders and, as you might expect, they all were taken by storm. Online shops are now out of stock.
Amazon, for its part, launched pre-orders of the PS5 in the night, to put a layer this Thursday, September 17 from 11:00. In just 8 minutes, the e-commerce giant also posted a message that its stocks were already depleted. On the other hand, those lucky enough to be able to pre-order the console this morning have noticed a very strange date of delivery estimated: the PS5 will not be delivered to them until January 2, 2021!
Is a very limited stock of PS5 to be expected on D-Day?
So it's an unexpected delivery date for the PS5 that Amazon announces on its website. While Sony's console is expected to arrive on November 19, 2020, it won't be delivered until after the holiday season. Why a month and a half delay? Is Amazon already anticipating a limited stock from Sony?
However, Sony is adamant: no, the limited utra stocks announced by Bloomberg a few days ago do not have to be. The PS5's production forecast has not been revised downwards, with the manufacturer still planning to manufacture 15 million consoles by the end of March 2021. Two hypotheses emerge: the number of consoles available for sale on the day of release will be extremely limited. We will therefore have to wait for a restocking in the weeks following the commercialization of the PS5. Either, and we hope this is the most likely hypothesis, Sony is simply trying to make the buzz and generate enthusiasm among the players.
Those who had tried to pre-order the Switch or the Nintendo Classic Mini certainly remember cases of "temporary" stock outages. It is therefore possible that the console will be available again in the coming days, this kind of situation is finally nothing exceptional.
