Microsoft will hold an Xbox conference in August 2018 at Gamescon. According to the blog post (edited since) by Larry Hryb, Xbox Live programming director, there will indeed be new hardware at this event. It seems unlikely, however, that a new console will be introduced on this occasion, but several American sites are predicting accessories, a new controller and perhaps more storage for the Xbox One X.
It all started with Larry Hryb's blog, also known as his moniker Major Nelson, responsible for Xbox Live programming. This morning, in his post announcing Microsoft's presence at Gamescom in Cologne (Germany), a short sentence deleted since (without denying) caused many American colleagues to react. It could indeed be read that at the event "new Xbox hardware and accessories" would be presented. And that there would even be "maybe surprises." We see you coming, probably like many, there you think of a new console. But you know as well as we do that it's very unlikely…
Xbox: "new hardware" but which ones?
On the other hand, several specialized blogs are putting forward what these famous hardware innovations might look like. The American website IGN thinks for example that Microsoft could present a new limited edition of the Xbox One X, probably in the colors of a flagship title. For its part, Engadget points out the existence of persistent rumors around a new Elite controller with new controls (the last one was launched in 2015), a USB connector type C magnetic, or an Xbox One X with more internal storage.
Another possibility would be a price drop on the Xbox One S. Gamescom will be held no matter what happens from August 21 in Cologne, Germany. Do you have any idea what hardware nuvelities Microsoft might present? Share your predictions in the comments.
