Xbox Scarlett: release at the end of 2020 with 8K, SSD, ray tracing and Halo Infinite

by Jerry

Xbox Scarlett has delivered its first official details at E3 2019. Microsoft's next-generation console will be released at the end of 2020 at the same time as Halo Infinite. On the technical sheet side, there are features similar to the PS5 with Zen 2 CPU, Navi GPU and SSD. That's enough to offer 8K, ray tracing, ridiculously low loading times and performance four times higher than the Xbox One X.

As expected, the Microsoft conference at E3 2019 gave birth to the first official information about the Xbox Scarlett project. First, Redmond's firm has announced an exit for the end of 2020, probably shortly before the holidays. Then, no commercial name was given, Microsoft citing only the name Scarlett, which will not be the definitive name of the console. Moreover, we expect the availability of two Xboxes at the same time next year, which was not confirmed at the event.

Xbox Scarlett: CPU, GPU, SSD… a lot of similarities with the PS5

Predictably, there are still large areas of blur on the next generation of Xbox. However, the American group has shared some technical characteristics that we will be entitled to in about a year and a half now. Xbox Scarlett will benefit from a custom AMD chip based on Zen 2 architectures for the CPU and Navi for the GPU. That delivers 4 times the performance of the Xbox One X.

Microsoft also mentioned 8K compatibility, 120 frames per second and ray tracing for graphics. Finally, the console or consoles will be equipped with an SSD capable of acting as a virtual RAM. As a result, loading times should collapse and make games much more fluid. Have you ever heard all this somewhere? Normal is also the promise of the PS5, which shares many similarities with Xbox Scarlett in terms of technical record.

Finally, a first game dedicated solely to the next generation of Xbox has been made official: it is Halo Infinite. Titles such as Cyberpunk 2077 will also be available, but will also be available on current consoles and PCs before the launch of Xbox Scarlett. Check the date in your calendar: Cyberpunk 2077 is released on April 16, 2020, an announcement made with great fanfare at the Microsoft conference at E3 2019 by actor Keanu Reeves, who plays a character in the game.

The Scarlett project is:

? native 4K at 60 FPS and up to 120 FPS
