Huawei cancels P40 and P40 Pro launch conference in Paris

by Jerry

While Huawei was due to hold a major conference at the end of the month in Paris to present its P40 and P40 Pro, the Chinese giant has finally backtracked. There will be a launch, but it will be broadcast on the big screen, as is now the case for all press conferences. The main culprit for this last-minute change is Coronavirus.

With France banningall gatherings of more than 1000 people to prevent the spread of Coronavirus, Huawei has decided to cancel its mass to be held in Paris. The P40 and P40 Pro will not be formalized this year in France, as was the case last year for the P30 and P30 Pro. The Chinese manufacturer will be content with a conference broadcast in streaming. Richard Yu will speak from a distance, probably in front of a handful of people as was the case 2 weeks ago for the launch of the Mate Xs, his foldable phone, and for the arrival of the new Matebook D 14" in Europe.

No press conference on March 26, but an online presentation

The cancellation of this conference takes place in a very special context for Huawei. The manufacturer is still caught up in the turmoil and its sales figures are likely to fall considerably this year. Still without Google apps, its smartphones now have to be content with those available in the AppGallery, the alternative store designed by Huawei. But the few applications that are currently available there, even if it gets richer from week to week, is a real hindrance to the adoption of a Huawei or Honor smartphone at the moment. What is not a problem in China is a real concern for Europe. Unless you get around the problem by forcing the installation of Google Mobile Services and the Play Store, as explained in our tutorial dedicated to the Mate 30 Pro.

Under such conditions, the launch of the P40 and P40 Pro is likely to be a bag of knots for Huawei, in Europe at least. What alternatives is the Chinese manufacturer preparing for us? Will the solution be based entirely on the AppGallery, or will it also be about alternative blinds like Aptoide? Answer at the end of the month, no matter what.
