PS5: Sony launches pre-orders but there's not enough for everyone

by Jerry

Sony opens pre-orders for the PS5, but only by invitation. Those who wish to book the console can sign up to hope for an email containing a link to pre-order the console. The quantities are limited and there will not be any for everyone.

Sony is approaching the final turn towards the release of the PS5. While the price and precise release date are still unknown, the firm has just launched a campaign to book the console on its website. "Sign up for a chance to be one of the first to pre-order your PS5 console on PlayStation,"Sony writes. As rumors have been announcing for several weeks, the console will be available in limited quantities.

PS5 pre-orders: not everyone will be served

As Sony explains on its website, "there will be a limited amount of the PS5 in pre-order. So we're going to invite some of our existing customers to be one of the first to pre-order one on PlayStation." Reservations will be taken into account on a first-come, first-served basis, but not only. There is a second filter that makes distribution even more selective.

Sony says the invitations will also take into account the interest and previous PlayStation activities of the players. We don't know what exactly the criteria are, but a portion of the PS5 stock may well reward the most active players on the PSN. Each invitation will be valid for a limited time. There is therefore a risk that even with an invitation you will find yourself unable to pre-order the console in case of a late reaction.

Only one PS5 per PSN ID

Another rumor of recent weeks is confirmed: Sony limits the purchase of the PS5 to one unit per customer (ID PSN). You will have the choice between the standard version and the digital edition (without a disc player). Each console can be delivered with two DualSense controllers and other console accessories. Specifically, you can add 2 controller charging stations, 2 Pulse 3D wireless headsets, two media remotes and two HD cameras.

Finally, at the time these lines are written, the booking page is only available on the U.S. version of Sony's website. We do not know the firm's plans for Europe. A campaign could also be launched in our countries in the coming days. And if you're tempted to go through the U.S. site, sony requires a U.S.-based delivery address.
