Nintendo Switch: Why does it sell so well?

by Jerry

Launched last March by the Kyoto firm, the Nintendo Switch is a huge success in the four corners of the world. The sales are colossal and are a testament to its immense success on a global scale. What explains such success? Nintendo President Reggie Fils-Aimé recently answered this question.

Last March, Nintendo came to brightly colour the video game market by deploying a new console that serves as both a lounge machine and a machine that can be transported everywhere: the Nintendo Switch. This toy, which has thus come to succeed a wii U strong disappointing commercially, has won everything in its path.

The success was immediately at the rendezvous and quickly ended in colossal sales all over the world. More than 4.7 million units were registered last July and this figure is now close to 5 million. So what are the reasons for this success? Why is the Switch so popular?

Nintendo Switch: Big N explains why its console sells so well

It's a fact that the Nintendo Switch is a hit all over the world and it's not the various sales statistics that will prove otherwise. A huge success of which Big N is of course aware, who recently gave some explanations on the subject.

Specifically, it was Nintendo America CEO Reggie Fils-Aimé who detailed the Switch's success at the Entertainment and Tech Summit, an event organized in Los Angeles by the American magazine Variety. He explained why the machine is so popular and why sales are so good:

"Why does the Switch sell so well? I would say it comes from a handful of things. First of all, we identified a great opportunity for consumers. When you talked to the players, they would always tell you that they would like to be able to take a home console experience with them so they never have to stop playing. And that's what we've proposed. So it's a console that can run on this beautiful 18 cm screen and can then be taken with you to play in the subway, in the Uber, or in any situation. So the basic concept is the first thing. »

He then indicates that this is also due to the content that has been offered and especially thanks to The Legend of Zelda Breath of The Wild, game that exploded everything at its launch.

"Then we got fantastic content. We launched the console with a game from the series The Legend of Zelda which is seen as one of, if not the best game ever created. And we followed that by managing to maintain a very strong exit pace. It has been phenomenal. »

Reggie Fils-Aimé concludes by finally stating that such a result would not have been possible without the support of major development studios such as Ubisoft or Electronic Arts.

"The third element is that we have had a lot of support from other developers. Whether it's big developers like EA or Ubisoft, or small independent developers who call themselves "Nindies," the contraction of "Independent Nintendo Developers." They create unique and innovative content that is available first on our platform or available only on our platform. »

What else to add? Not much in the end except to say that these words simply reflect the reality that the Nintendo Switch fully deserves its success. Big N has struck a big blow with its console and will be able to count on the upcoming Super Mario Odyssey bundle to further inflate its sales.
