Apple wants to “hack” Samsung and Qualcomm from future iPhones and Apple Watch

by Jerry

It seems that Apple is interested in taking control of the production of its devices. Reports indicate that Apple is planning to develop its own Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips. In addition, the company reportedly decided to produce its own microLED screens for both the Apple Watch and future iPhones. As a result, the brand would end the partnership for years with companies such as Samsung and LG.

After buying intel’s modem technology for about $1 billion in 2019, Apple is getting closer to dropping Qualcomm on future iPhones. With that in mind, the company seems to be planning to use its own Bluetooth and Wi-Fi chips on handsets from 2025.

The company’s ambition is to stop relying on third parties to provide part of the electronic components of its gadgets. It’s worth remembering that the brand has partnered with Broadcom for years, using parts from mac to more current smartphones. The most recent contract is from 2020 and lasts three and a half years.

According to bloomberg reports, Apple wants to create a unique chip that would contain Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and modem capabilities.

In addition, there are reports that Apple has plans to launch its first 5G modem “by the end of 2024 or early 2025.” This would affect Qualcomm’s revenue from the U.S. company.

Apple Watch screen will also be made at home
In the same information released by Bloomberg, apple will start using displays developed by itself between 2024 and 2025. Thus, the technology she has been testing in recent years should be added to the new models of the smart watch. The Apple Watch 8 was released in September 2022, bringing a retina display with up to 1,000 nits.

The report indicates that the brand will replace the OLED screen of the current gadgets with a microLED produced “in-house”, the first of its kind made exclusively by the company. It would have higher gloss quality and more vibrant colors, and be better to see from different angles. In addition, the novelty would eventually come to other devices, such as the iPhone.

It is important to note that if this actually occurs (or when it does), suppliers such as Samsung and LG would be financially affected, losing a strong customer. However, South Koreans may have been preparing for the tupine for a while, as Apple has never hidden its interests on the issue.
